Our History
The James family started Lexington Furniture Company in 1963 as Lexington Wholesale Furniture. The business was in the heart of downtown Lexington, Kentucky, and occupied 40,000 square feet on land that is now the site of Rupp Arena and Heritage Hall.
Hugh James, the current owner, bought the business from his father in 1984. He and a business partner owned the business, called Lexington Furniture and Oriental Rug Gallery, until James bought the furniture side of the company in 2005.
In 1995, Lexington Furniture expanded its business nationwide by advertising in several major magazines. Consumers could now order direct from the factory and have their furniture delivered in their home anywhere in the United States. Again, the same philosophy, which had guided the business thus far, still applied: good value, great prices and excellent service. At the same time, Lexington Furniture Company was one of the first to make its presence on the internet, thereby expanding its sales nationally.
Lexington Furniture Company remains one of the leaders in the furniture business. Lexington Furniture is heading into its seventh decade of business, offering the highest quality of furniture at more than competitive pricing. It provides award-winning customer service with qualified sales associates and interior designers.
